the country population, especially for more than 70% of the population living in rural
areas, whose incomes are directly or indirectly connected with agriculture.

Tajikistan is heavily exposed to various external factors, such as rising food prices,
increasing household food instability. Higher prices for fuel and lubricants also causes
concern of agricultural producers, as it threatens their small success which were achieved
by them recently. Thus, the implementation of measures to eliminate existing barriers to
the growth of agricultural production and reduce the vulnerability of the sector to external
negative events can have a big positive impact on economic growth and poverty
reduction.

Growth rates in agriculture are much lower than growth rates in economy in
general. Despite these recent improvements, there are still great opportunities for
increasing crop yields and livestock productivity by improving the management of the
process of growing crops, more intensive use of agricultural inputs, and most importantly,
the modernization of irrigation systems. The pace of reforms to improve agricultural
productivity must be accelerated in order to ensure growth in the sector.

There are serious problems ın the agricultural sector of the country, that need to
be addressed. These problems include: limited arable land and their inefficient use; soil
degradation; water shortages and deterioration of its quality; irrigation problems; low
yields; unsatisfactory conditions and ways of storage and food transportation; poor quality
of imported food products etc.

Among one of the major challenges in near future in agriculture, the quality of the
soil should be highlighted. Possible changes in the climatic conditions in agriculture will
face the problem of deterioration of soil quality and reduce their natural fertility. Absence
or insufficiency of investments in maintenance of soil fertility and environmental
compliance leads to the depletion of natural potential and exacerbate the problem of
sustainability of agricultural production in the long term perspectivexr4.

Currently, there are no regular assessments of the soil, which could be used as
indicators of ecological agriculture. Meanwhile, the importance of processes such as soil
erosion in agriculture is extremely high. Negative ecological processes have become one
of the main reasons for the reduction of agricultural lands. There is a complete
degradation of the lands as a result of irrational use and the impact of negative processes
have been widely developed due to a sharp reduction of measures to protect valuable
lands from water and wind erosion, flooding, waterlogging and other processes. The
situation is in many ways exacerbated by the emerging trend of the transfer of agricultural
lands for rent to Chinese entrepreneurs who are known for their barbaric attitude to nature
and the environment. They even at home put top yields as a priority, without paying
attention to environmental protection. What to speak of other countries, where they use
chemicals, pesticides, etc. in huge quantities to maximize profits. In many countries where
Chinese entrepreneurs "worked" in agriculture, they left behind the lands completely
unsuitable for further use.

Markets for agricultural products remains underdeveloped, which is a deterrent
factor to increasing the volume of production by farmers. Weak links between markets,
low economy due to increase in production, lack of access to credit and the barriers to
